Prometheus, responding to the question of what humans can do to improve themselves in The Big Over Easy by Jasper Fforde
Okay, everyone. Let’s get this straight.
These guys are fighting for your freedom:
These guys are providing muscle to a corrupt government because they can’t find jobs or afford to go to school:
Military service is not the same thing as fighting for freedom. I love my soldier friends, and I appreciate their service, but they are not fighting for freedom. They’re fighting for a government that wants to strip America of all freedom.
I have a lot of strong opinions about the American government and what should be done to fix it.
I do not share most of these opinions online because I know that there’s a good chance I’ll be branded as a terrorist and never allowed back into the country of my birth. If I had brown skin, I would be even quieter because my government would very possibly actually murder me for my opinions.
So this is me, silenced. This is me, afraid to criticize my government. This is me, no longer possessing the basic rights of free speech on which America was founded.
The “War on Terror” has utterly destroyed the Bill of Rights and the American government has become a terrorist organization. I am utterly ashamed of my country.
The biggest irony of my dad being an anti-big-government libertarian is that my dad worked for 40 years FOR THE GOVERNMENT.
If the government was as small as he wants it to be, both he and my mom would have been unemployed.
Most “government spending” is salaries for government workers. You know, that middle class America used to have? It was paying them to build roads and teach in schools and run the court system. When you keep demanding lower taxes and “smaller government” you’re basically demanding lay-offs in some of the most vital parts of society.
A lot of people in the US distrust the BBC because it is “government media.”
I’m gonna be honest, I trust the government media of the UK about a hundred times more than the corporate media of the US. Corporations are manipulating what you see in the media in the US a lot more than the government manipulates the media here.
The people of the UK still have a say in the government. We can vote people out of office if they’re lying and manipulating the media. What can you do when the corporations do the same? You have no vote in a corporation’s agenda.
So yeah, I’ll take the BBC news (with the requisite number of grains of salt) any day over American media.
