Actually, it’s not a true fact.
Both the Russian and American crews used pencils until it was discovered that pencil shavings in space were a bad idea, and they switched to grease pencils (the kind with paper you peel off instead of wood).
The expensive pressurized “space pens” were a marketing ploy by a pen manufacturer, and were never developed or used by NASA.
